Caregiver burden in parents of children with neurological impairement and its relation with depression

Introduction Caregiving negatively affects the psychological and physical health of caregivers, especially in parents children with neurological impairement (NI).Furthermore, behavior demands patient make caregivers encounter increased stress levels negative thoughtsabout future that may lead to depression caregivers. Objectives To assess relationship between caregiver burden symptoms NI. Methods A total 33 NI, participated this cross-sectional, descriptive analytical study, carried out Child Neurology Department University Hospital Sfax (Tunisia), February April 2021. The Zarit-Caregiver-Burden-Scale (Zarit-CBS) Beck Depression Scale were administered. Results average age (27 mothers 6 fathers) was 38,33 years ± 6,53 years. Among parents, 81,81% didn’t exceed secondary educational level and75,75% them had an irregular occupation. (21 boys 12 girls) 7,58±4,29 years.Near half (51,51%) intellectual disability.Over 54.54% a functional independence, while 21.21% required help walking 24.24% unable walk. intervention based on motor rehabilitation (57,57%), adequate equipment (24,24%), ergotherapy (45,45%) speech therapy (60,6%).After intervention, 63,63% improvement 30,3% stationary state. mean score Zarit-CBS 52,45±14,26. noted 96,96%. 9,33±5,48. 78,78%. positive correlation scores (p=0.038).
